Individual reading : part 4

Chapters 31-40
The following day Stroeve leaves the storyteller in spite of his request to stay with him. Dirk is in deep depression after his wife's leaving , he can not to anything except for thinking of Blanche. He starts to follow her in order to discuss the situation and find possible solution but his attempts are not succwsfull. So that the narrotor advises him to set off to his native country Holland. The man refuses as he thinks that Blanche still needs him. The storyteller feels sympathy with Strove and decides to help him by sending the letter to Strove's feelings.
One day the narrator meets them together , but he still doubts whether Blanche is happy or not.
After some time Strove visits the narrator being pretty worried and tells that that Blanche tries to kill herself. She is still alive , but is placed in the hospital. Dirk is in panic and asks the storyteller to help him anyhow. The narrator comes to the hospital and the doctor says that her health is very bad and probably her life is still questioned.
Than Blanche health becomes worse and then she dies. Dirk decides to set off to Holland but before he meets with Strickland and the man is gifted a painting depicting his wife

    he can not to (???) anything except for thinking of Blanche - maybe you meant - he can not DO anything except for thinking of Blanche ?
