Individual reading : part 3

Chapters 21-30
The narrator and Strickland come to the restaurant . They talk about Charles and his desires. The man is interested only in art. He is not in need of the family , money the house or whatsoever. He has a passion and this passion is drawing , but not his pictures itself. He doesn't even show the narrator his paintings. Even being in need of money he doesn't want to sell his pictures, having the potential buyer.
The storyteller and his friend Dirk don't know where the artist is , and make an attempt to find him. They find out that Charles is very ill and decide to take him to Stove's house . Strove's wife is pretty upset about this fact and feels uneasy abut his coming. The woman hates him but nevertheless take care of the artist. The family spend plenty of time taking care of the guest but hear no thanks for their deeds.
After some time Dirk visits to the narrator being very upset and says that his wife loves Mr. Strickland and leaves the husband because of this fact.

    The family spendS but hearS no thanks - if you comsider FAMILY as a unity, it's singular, if you mean every member of the family it's plural
