Chapters 1-10

The narrator tells the story about his friend , a talented artist Charles Strickland. Maurice Huret writes the article about him thus making him famous . The storyteller meets Strickland first time in his house the man looks like a dull and a typical person without connection to art. Strickland's wife is rather different .She is art-oriented and prefers to communicate with those who take part in art too . The narrator visits their family several times and realizes that the Stricklands is an example of an ideal family with full harmony.Charles with his wife has also the children: the boy , and the girl. After some time the artist set off to Paris, leaving his family alone ,with the letter telling about his departure. The wife is upset and thinks of an attempt to return the husband back home.So she asks the narrator to set off to Paris and find him. The storyteller is not interested in this deed but he has no other way than to help this woman.
